To better support and more engage with our global affiliates and communities, CC is pleased to announce "CC Translation Sprint," which is to be run as part of the Google Global Outreach Grant which is aimed at strengthening and supporting the work of CC’s Global Affiliate Network to promote the broad understanding and adoption of open policies and related practices around the world

1. What is CC Translation Sprint?

You can probably find some nice CC educational/informational materials available on CC wiki or shared by open communities, but they are not always in your local languages, and sometimes it can be simply hard to develop materials in your local language from scratchs, or even to just translate resources already out there into your local languages for your use, especially for young communities with limited number of volunteers.

Considering this situation, CC would like to run a project to translate a range of CC informational resources into widely spoken languages in collaboration with affiliates; and undertake additional relevant measures to encourage translation of such resources into other languages in the longer term.

And to start, CC presents CC Translation Sprint where CC's global affiliates and communities are invited to translate two simple, handy pamphlets containing basic information about CC licenses - one for six CC licenses and the other for Public Domain.

2. Prize

- 3 teams who finish first get special prizes - cash prize of $1000 & printed version of their document!

- All who finish translating by the end of August will be provided with printed versions of their documents; Those teams able to work with Indesign files are provided with files to produce printable versions of their translations while those not able to work with Indesign will work with HQ to have translation made print ready.

3. How it works?

- All volunteer teams must include at least one translator and a proofreader who has not otherwise worked on the translation. The proofreader can be an affiliate project lead or anyone who is approved by a project lead.

- Teams can involve more than one affiliate/community group, but must agree in advance how the prize funds will be distributed between them.

- When finished, translations are uploaded to the wiki page, while copies are also to be sent to HQ by teams for assessment, design and distribution, along with a brief introduction of your team (and a written approval of a project lead for the proofreader).

- HQ has chosen “neutral” party who speaks the language in question to assess the first 3 translations for prize. This person should be chosen and approved by HQ, should speak and write the language in question fluently and should not have worked on the translation. Preferably HQ will identify this person themselves - however, if this proves difficult for particular languages, HQ will ask for recommendations from translation teams or contact outside language experts for assistance.

4. If you finish before Global Summit...

- Teams who finished early will get a chance to present their works and participate in fun translation events at the Global Summit!
