1. User requests a website containing a remixed work. The website uses proper attribution & metadata. 2. The curious user clicks on a link to the website featuring the original work. 3. The page with the original work on it has a bit of CC-provided javascript that recognizes that there is a referrer string, and sends that to a CC-run server via XHR. (4.) The CC-run database server notes the urls for both the page of the original work and the page of the remixed work; downloads both to read the respective metadata. If everything checks out, the server stores the information in a database that can be used to generate reuse tracking information.
