Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. — Plato
Overview
137Mhz is intended to further the goals of the Free Music movement and to provide music to the world, free of charge.
It is a revival of 137Mhz Records, which sunk underground after it's former owner was arrested for Tax Evasion. It originally was against any form of piracy and sharing but now is for it.
License Usage
Music is generally licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.
Motivations
Jimmy Chen chose the Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License during the path to revive 137Mhz Records from the dust. He gathered the support of friends and other free music advocates who agreed the same, thinking that music is a integral part of life and choosing to price it was wrong. They felt Commercial exploitation was wrong however, and chose a non-commercial license. They were also inspired by the remixing of music by a DJ Titanic and decided to make Music remixable with share-alike.
Impact
137Mhz Records has improved the fame of aspiring artists and feels it has made a difference, although small, to the world. It hopes to be a leading Open Source Record label and a free music advocate in the coming future.
Technical Details
137Mhz uses standard distribution, generally over P2P such as Torrents. It has also recruited the help of 4 small radio stations as well as half a dozen Pirate Radio stations operating in North America as well as Europe.
