EPUB is a free and open ebook standard utilizing XHTML content and XML manifest files packaged in a zip file. See http://www.hxa.name/articles/content/epub-guide_hxa7241_2007.html for a .epub construction guide.
License information
As human-readable EPUB content is XHTML, standard ccREL (RDFa) machine-readable annotation of human visible license notice is best practice.
It is also possible to add dc:rights to the manifest file. If done this must agree with the annotated human visible notice above.
