Official translators of the European Commission, coordinated by Pedro MALAQUIAS (Legal Officer – Intellectual Property).
Language coordination
We involved CC Slovakia (Zuzana Adamová) in the translation process because the Czech and Slovak languages work alike in some aspects.
Translation process
We produced the first draft in 2014 and it circulated internally for the first line of comments. The draft was then evaluated by the legal experts on copyright from the Czech Republic and also from CC Slovakia. We ran two periods of public consultation and the document for the public consultation is available here. We have also published the info about these consultations on our webpage, our Facebook page and sent the info to people engaged in the area of openness. This version was sent to the CC HQ translation team, there were some changes suggested from the CC HQ, these were implemented to the draft.
Key translation decisions
The name of the license element "Attribution" has been changed from “Name the Author” to “Indicate provenance/attribution” - in order to respect the SGDR and to provide clearer guidance for attribution - to state all the necessary information, not only name of the author.
Translation of "Downstream recipients": we were debating the correct translation of the word "recipient" and we chose the term “příjemce” (the meaning is “the person who is accepting something”), though it is not the term used in this sense in the Czech copyright law ("nabyvatel"), because the process here is slightly different. This was approved by the CC HQ.
