It appears that the SpamBlacklist extension was disabled; this does not seem like a good choice.  In a desperate attempt to halt or at least slow down the flow of spam we've been getting, I did add .com (and I've now added all the GTLDs) to the blacklist (see my message to Mike for more details), but it would have been better to leave the extension enabled and just remove the .com entries from [[MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist]].  I left a phone message with Bonnie, hopefully we can get this resolved sooner rather than later, as the tide of crap is rising fast.  Thanks for your prompt attention. One has to wait a considerable amount of seconds for pages to load and save, then suddenly it improves, then goes back to being slow. Trying to understand it, I came across [http://serverfault.com/questions/155840/serving-application-http-5xx-error-pages-via-varnish this answer] which seems to indicate that Varnish keeps timing out, while connecting to the backend server, or waiting for bytes to be sent. Do you know what is going on with the backend server? Unusual loads? Anything that can be fixed? Thanks. -- [[User:Hamilton Abreu|Hamilton Abreu]] 21:29, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

One more request (see previous request above, created earlier today). Could you please enable semantic links for the "Template:" namespace? You can see in [http://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Configuration_1.5.1_-_1.5.5#smwgNamespacesWithSemanticLinks namespaces with semantic links enabled] what needs to be changed:
 +
<pre>
 +
[...]
 +
NS_TEMPLATE => true,
 +
[...]
 +
</pre>
 +
I believe you're going to turn your nose at this, but:
 +
* Template translations should follow the same translation scheme as all other namespaces. There is no reason not to do it, as far as I am aware.
 +
* This is necessary in order to create templates that don't require translation. I must be able to discover programatically what translated template corresponds to an existing English template. For example, I've created [[Template:Messages]] for user interface messages. The pt version of it is in [[Template:Pt:Mensagens]]. A template which is used in a "Pt:xxxx" page can print the appropriate Pt: message using <code><nowiki>{{Translation of|Template:Messages}}</nowiki></code>. Well, this last template works for other namespaces but does not work for the "Template:" namespace, because semantic links are disabled by default.

Hey Nathan. It's good practice to check up on double redirects after you move pages on MediaWikis. I'll fix it right now.

By the way, do you know what happened to the Monobook skin? I don't want to use CC or CC4 since a lot of MediaWiki links I'm used aren't around. But the current MediaWiki classic skin that I'm forced to use doesn't make me very happy (i.e. less likely to edit ;) guaka 18:41, 3 October 2007 (EDT)

Pages to delete

I noticed you've done some deletions recently, according to the log, so I thought I'd notify you of some more pages that need that treatment. You can find them in Category:Pages to be deleted (which I just created). Thanks! JesseWeinstein 00:39, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for doing those; I've found (and I'm going to find) a few more now. JesseWeinstein 02:01, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Note on Translate about Transifex

Enabling properties

One more request (see previous request above, created earlier today). Could you please enable semantic links for the "Template:" namespace? You can see in namespaces with semantic links enabled what needs to be changed:

[...]
NS_TEMPLATE => true,
[...]

I believe you're going to turn your nose at this, but:

  • Template translations should follow the same translation scheme as all other namespaces. There is no reason not to do it, as far as I am aware.
  • This is necessary in order to create templates that don't require translation. I must be able to discover programatically what translated template corresponds to an existing English template.
