Revision as of 10:48, 30 March 2007

In doing a copy edit, I found the following things that seemed strange to me:

  • The sequence (\'\'Id\'\') appeared in several places.
  • A sequencd \u201d appears in several places. (where d is some digit.)

Could someone explain, please, what these are supposed to mean?

Further, in previewing this I find that xxx seems not to work!!

what browser are you using?

It doesn't seem to understand utf8. Mike Linksvayer 22:03, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Using FireFox-1.5 on Linux

It understands utf-8 just fine. eg: ® © (copyright & (R) symbols) show properly, entered as utf-8 by pasting.

OTOH, when I pasted the (TM) symbol, I got \u2122 shows up as backslash-u2122 !!

What browser are you using and how do they show up there?

Forensics nearly complete :=)

It was not the browser causing the trouble, it was the X clipboard on my Linux system. It doesn't understand utf-8 !!

I can even get a ™ by simply selecting and pasting w/ the mouse, bypassing the clipboard and the <shift-insert> key.

I plan to undo your undo and fix it up right ASAP.

OTOH, there are (∃) other problems w/ the Wiki software

You will notice that <blockquote> works fine, but ...

does't.

It seems that the software escapes out the ampersand that is required for entities to work and also escapes out q tags.
