Describe the project you are proposing as clearly as possible in just five sentences.
CC Asia Pacific Conference 2010 is a two-day international conference to be organized by CC Korea where CC communities in Asia and the Pacific will gather together to share experience and discuss common issues and potential projects. This will be a valuable occasion for CC jurisdictions in the region to enhance ties of friendship and cooperation while providing a venue for individuals and organizations from various fields including business, government, and academia to build networks at both the international and local level, which will in turn facilitate collaboration within and across CC communities in the region.
Detail the tangible project output (e.g., paper, blog post, written materials, video/film, etc.; this would be in addition to the final written report that successful grant recipients will be expected to deliver to CC at the conclusion of the project).
Blog postings, presentation materials, video clips, and photos will be submitted in addition to the final report upon the completion of the project.
Describe the community you are targeting. How would the project benefit the community?
CC affiliates in the Asia Pacific region will be the main target of the event, while local artists, public officials, academic professionals, and others who support open culture are also expected to significantly benefit from the project. This gathering will contribute to more strong networks among CC communities in the region. Not only that, but they will also be given opportunities to develop networks with local artists, public organizations, and academic institutions and to explore potential projects.br />
CC Korea has been an active member of the global CC community with strong commitment and extensive experience: We have actively participated in previous CC conferences in Asia and has maintained close friendship with our affiliates in the region. In addition, we have considerable experience of organizing several local and international events, including CC Korea International Conference in 2008. In this regard, CC Korea is recognized by its affiliates as the right jurisdiction for making this year's CC Asia Pacific conference a success.
How will you measure and evaluate your project’s impact - on your main participants? Other contributors? On the larger community?
We plan to conduct a brief survey to measure participants' satisfaction and get feedback on what needs to be improved in the future once the event ends.
How many participants do you expect to be involved in your project? How will you seek and sustain their involvement?
More than 30 representatives from about 10 CC jurisdictions in Asia and the Pacific are expected to participate in pre-conference and concurrent sessions and be joined by around 300 locals including public officials, artists, and IT experts. For the local community, we plan to draw attention and encourage participation through online promotion on major portals, websites, emails, forums and blogs. At the international level, we will directly engage with overseas CC communities via email to inform them of the conference and encourage their participation. In addition, several pre- conference projects and side events will be prepared to draw attention of people who support CC around the world.
Describe how your project will benefit Creative Commons' mission to increase the amount of creativity (cultural, educational, and scientific content) in "the commons".
By sharing experiences from different regions, people will be able to learn how CC can be applied and utilized in various ways, which will give them inspiration to get new innovative ideas and explore possible projects. In particular, this year’s CC Asia conference is to be held under the theme of “Open for innovation," dwelling on how sharing and open culture can further nurture creativity and innovation. As the amount of content available is rapidly increasing, this event will contribute to promoting the values CC embodies and highlighting the potential CC brings.
Describe what technologies and tools your project will use. What kinds of technical skills and expertise do you bring to the project? What are your technical needs?
For effective research and efficient communication among staff and volunteers during the preparation and for pre-conference projects, we will actively take advantage of online tools such as instant messenger, blog, microblogging service, as well as email. Open-source tools and web-based applets will be used and customized to develop an official web site for the event.
What challenges do you expect to face, and how do you plan to overcome them?
The issue of raising funds is one of the biggest and the most urgent challenges, especially as this event is expected to be a huge gathering both in terms of scale and scope. We're currently maximizing our capability to raise funds for the event from various organizations, groups, and businesses by promoting the significance of this event and CC and what tangible benefits it will bring to them.
How do you plan to sustain your project after the Creative Commons funding has ended? Detail specific plans. How do you plan to raise revenue to continue your efforts in the future?
Once the conference ends, we will release and share the outcome with the participating jurisdictions and other interested parties via our website, newsletter, and blogs. For on-going projects and new items brought up during the conference, we will follow up on them and share their developments via newsletters, blogs, and the website and provide support for additional collaboration. In addition, we will keep contact with relevant communities and exchange ideas regarding what can be put forward down the road.
How can this project be scalable, or have a scalable impact?
What resources and support do you expect Creative Commons to provide to your project to ensure its success (if any)?
First and foremost, financial support is critical for the success of the CC Asia Pacific Conference 2010. In addition to that, we expect that CC Headquarter would also support us to broaden and deepen our relationship with CC affiliates in other parts of the world, which would enable us to share information and ideas and further promote collaboration in the future.
Describe how your organization currently communicates with its community members and network partners. (100 words)
We use online channels, such as website (http://vc.cckorea.org/), email, and social networking tools (Google groups, twitter, etc.) and mobile phones to communicate with our community members and outside partners. In addition to that, we also hold offline meetings on a regular basis to discuss major issues.
