Describe the project you are proposing as clearly as possible in just five sentences.

Smart Kitchen is an application that populates all the products and/or produce in your kitchen for better organization and identification as well as a large number of other functions including, but not limited to: Downloading online recipes and automatically generating shopping lists, both of these based on the products and/or produce in the kitchen in addition to a wide variety of customizable features. The user has the ability to add, edit or update his/her "Kitchen List" via three methods: 1) USB Antenna device that scans the kitchen for RFIDs (Radio Frequency Identification); 2) By inputting a code that will be available on the receipt that connects back to the grocers' system and populates the entire statement and converts it into an itemized list; 3) Manually by picking from an infinite and complete list of products and produce. "Finally" these features would be equally accessible not only through the costumer's laptop/computer, but also via a mobile application and localized kiosks at the grocery stores where the user would have the ability to log in, connect the his/her "Kitchen Data" and print out an itemized shopping list. This system would be easily adaptable to any medium to large sized grocery store. An example of a company that is already implementing the use of RFIDs by demanding this from their top suppliers is Walmart.

Detail the tangible project output (e.g., paper, blog post, written materials, video/film, etc.; this would be in addition to the final written report that successful grant recipients will be expected to deliver to CC at the conclusion of the project).

This project would be developed throughout 3 different mediums: 1) Desktop application & USB Antenna device that scans for RFIDs; 2) Mobile application; 3) Kiosks at local stores.

Describe the community you are targeting. How would the project benefit the community?

This is a project for anyone and everyone really. However there are two particularly ideal targets for this project: 1) Housewives, from 28-50, medium-low to high social class, $50k+ annual income that are busy attending to their needs and now have one less to worry about since it has just been simplified and to some extent automatized; 2) Cooks—amateurs, professionals or entrepreneurs. The contents of every and any kitchen in the world, at home or at the restaurant, now have the opportunity to be easily itemized, located and filtered.br />

What is your relationship with the community you are targeting? Why are you the best individual/organization to lead this project? Do you have prior experience in related projects?

Apart from my, and my family's, love for food and cooking, no, not really. I'm an interactive designer so every day I'm surrounded by ideas and needs to simplify things, make them more accessible and reachable to wider masses. Combining that with my passion I thought about this project.

How will you measure and evaluate your project’s impact - on your main participants? Other contributors? On the larger community?

The community most definitely. I'm not trying to make the world, art and everyone's passion of cooking something technological or robotized, but rather simplify what stands behind it, the process, making it more accessible and ultimately more efficient and faster.

How many participants do you expect to be involved in your project? How will you seek and sustain their involvement?

As far as participants go, as stated, this is a project for basically every single grocery store in the world, it's a system that is easily adaptable, customizable and implemented. When it comes to sustaining it and keeping the tie strong it's really a matter of how confident I am in the success of this product. Its components are fresh and have had somewhat similar uses in other industries; implementing it in this industry is something that is required.

Describe how your project will benefit Creative Commons' mission to increase the amount of creativity (cultural, educational, and scientific content) in "the commons".

This project will definitely increase cultural creativity. All the elements in this project are viral. Users can create and share their recipes based on what they have. Filter it by calorie count, nutritional value and even cost. It's a project with limitless possibilities. Scientifically this project will directly influence the development and further use of new technologies, like RFIDs, to simplify our everyday tasks. Its use will definitely encourage other entrepreneurs to implement this concept in other industries and mediums.

Describe what technologies and tools your project will use. What kinds of technical skills and expertise do you bring to the project? What are your technical needs?

As stated before this project revolves around an application packet that consists of a software and a USB scanner/reader device. There will also be a mobile version of the application with its features and uses simplified and target to a mobile platform. The third element is a kiosk located at the grocery stores where the user will have the ability to log-in to his/her account, access his/her data and print a shopping list based on his/her needs. This shopping list will include a map of the store with a sort of a traced path to reach each of the items within the store. This has enormous marketing and advertising potential as coupons can be printed on to the actual shopping list/map and/or the path can lead the costumer through desired aisles. Finally there's the implementation of a system that will convert the receipt data into actual "itemizable" data to be read by the application. Apart from the USB Antenna scanner device that will ultimately need to be developed by an engineer, the rest can be easily done with your average software and application development applications. Example, Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight can be used to develop the in-store kiosks. As far as my expertise go I intend to pitch in with my UX design, information architecture and interactive design skills to build the most functional, accessible and efficient set of elements possible. Everything else, development and engineering wise, I need assistance with.

What challenges do you expect to face, and how do you plan to overcome them?

Basically technical ones. It's a highly intricate system that requires minute attention to detail. Overcoming them would basically come from hiring the right individuals and setup the right team in the first place.

How do you plan to sustain your project after the Creative Commons funding has ended? Detail specific plans. How do you plan to raise revenue to continue your efforts in the future?

I see it as a pretty self-sustainable project. Once basic, primary and initial funding requirements are achieved it's all about locking the right clients and costumers, while showing that I'm all about loyalty and continuity.

How can this project be scalable, or have a scalable impact?

Most certainly so! The possibilities of using, implementing or adapting the use of RFIDs and the whole concept behind making everyday tasks simpler is almost virtually limitless. As far as impact goes it's all about simplifying everyday tasks and making them easier and more accessible, which is exactly what this project intends on doing.

What resources and support do you expect Creative Commons to provide to your project to ensure its success (if any)?

Getting the name out there and possibly using CC's resources to help narrow the best individuals I might need.

Describe how your organization currently communicates with its community members and network partners. (100 words)
