Further empowering the Creative Commons licensing model by providing an online service with the ability to measure image usage by licensees. — Frederic Tudor
Overview
Youtils (http://www.youtils.com) is an online service that enables content owners to track how their online images are being used on sites hosting their content. We have added support for the Creative Commons Attribution license.
License Usage
With new support for the Creative Commons Attribution license content owners with the CC-BY license can now register and offer their images through Youtils to obtain detailed metrics around licensee image usage. The process for obtaining usage metrics is done in 3 easy steps:
1. Upload the Creative Commons Attribution based image to Youtils.com.
2. Select the Creative Commons Attribution radio button.
3. Direct your licensee to your image by posting the "LicenzMe" link on your site. The LicenzMe link will point the licensee to Youtils for licensing that specific image.
That's it. A licensee is required to also host the LicenzMe link to further promote your content on their website (this also satisfies the attribution requirement). In addition, the measurement link they host will provide you with usage metrics of your image on their site.
Motivations
Youtils considers offering images through the Creative Commons licenses to be an important step in gaining control over image usage rights and for letting licensees know what they are permitted to do with the image. We also understand that it is desirable to understand the "pulse" of the image on the web; how, where and how frequently the image is being used. Youtils provides this additional transparency by supporting the Creative Commons license.
