Masked links

I notice some prominent CC content reusers don't include attribution links in their HTML and instead add them via JavaScript: is this acceptable? Example:

This article is licensed under the <span class="maskedLink" onclick="startOnClick('aHR0cDovL2NyZWF0aXZlY29tbW9ucy5vcmcvbGljZW5zZXMvYnktc2EvMy4wLw==');">Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License</span>. It uses material from the Wikipedia article <span class="maskedLink" onclick="startOnClick('aHR0cDovL2VuLndpa2lwZWRpYS5vcmcvd2lraS9NZWRpYVdpa2k=');">MediaWiki</span>.
