ShareAlike compatibility analysis: Mulan

“Mulan Open Works License Attribution-ShareAlike, Version 1” (MulanOWL BY-SA v1, http://openworks.mulanos.cn/#/licenses/MulanOWL_BY-SA-v1) and “Mulan Open Works License Attribution-PatentLicensed-ShareAlike, Version 1” (MulanOWL BY-PL-SA v1, http://openworks.mulanos.cn/#/licenses/MulanOWL_BY-PL-SA-v1) were published in 2022. MulanOWL BY-SA v1 and MulanOWL BY-PL-SA v1 are copyright licenses with a ShareAlike mechanism and an attribution mechanism, and they do not violate the definition of Free Cultural Licenses. Thus, it satisfies the minimum criteria for compatibility set forth in our ShareAlike compatibility criteria.

MulanOWL BY-PL-SA v1 grants patent rights and is not compatible with CC BY-SA 4.0.

MulanOWL BY-SA v1 is similar to CC BY-SA 4.0 overall, and the effect of each license as applied to a creative work is largely the same. Inevitably, there are differences between the licenses, which are explained in more detail below.

Summary of comparison: MulanOWL BY-SA v1 and BY-SA 4.0

*It appears that the MulanOWL BY-SA v1 license referenced the CC BY-SA 4.0 license in its development. We are not sure what decisions went into the choices that made some portion of MulanOWL BY-SA v1 diverge from CC BY-SA 4.0. The steward of Mulan licenses pointed to LearnerHub as a repository for works licensed under Mulan BY-SA v1 license.

*The specific attribution and marking requirements in the two licenses vary slightly. CC BY-SA 4.0 allows for more flexibility depending on the context in which the work is used. Most notably, MulanOWL BY-SA v1 asks users to retain trademark and patent statements.

*We are particularly concerned that, unlike CC BY-SA 4.0, MulanOWL BY-SA v1 does not mention database rights, nor does it mention related rights. This could cause problems for reusers.

*The ShareAlike scope of MulanOWL BY-SA v1 is likely broader.

*MulanOWL BY-SA v1 does not terminate even upon breach, as long as the breach was cured prior to, or within 30 days of, receiving notice of termination. This may create some ambiguity, such as whether a licensor can collect damages during the period when a breach has happened but no notice is yet sent. CC BY-SA terminates automatically upon breach, but is reinstated automatically if the breach is cured within 30 days of discovery.

The Open Game License 1.0 (OGL1.0) was published by Wizards of the Coast in 2000. OGL is a copyright license with Share-Alike type mechanism, and it can be argued to meet the definition of Free Cultural Licenses. Thus, it satisfies the minimum criteria for compatibility set forth in our ShareAlike compatibility criteria. While these licenses have many similarities licenses, the effect of each license as applied to a creative work is quite different because of the vastly different scope.

Summary of comparison: Open Game License 1.0 and BY-SA 4.0

* The scope of the two licenses differs in several key regards. CC BY-SA licenses rights in copyright, neighboring rights, and sui generis database rights. The Open Game License is much more limited in scope, excluding many copyrightable elements that fall under the definition of “Product Identity”, such as characters, stories, storylines, artwork, and many other elements if identified as “Product Identity” by the licensor. The main purpose of the license appears to be the licensing of the “game mechanic” and “methods, processes, procedures, and routines”.

* The attribution requirements are similar, but the Open Game License does not permit any marketing to use the name of the creator of remixed material.

* The Open Game License does not mention technological protection measures, which CC BY-SA forbids placing on Shared/Adapted works.

* The Open Game License requires derivatives to be shared under the same license and does not provide any provision for sharing under other similar or compatible licenses. Even if it were otherwise compatible, the license would need to be versioned to permit this.

Creative Commons Network

Creative Commons Global Network.

First draft provided by the European Commission, then reviewed by the CC community during public comment. The translations followed the guidelines set in the 3.0 version and kept the same translations for most of the legal words and phrases. The most important change in the 4.0 version is for the word “Share”. The 4.0 suite is an exact translation of the English original version, without adaptations to national laws. As “Distribuire” is a word used in the Romanian copyright law, the word “Partajare” was chosen for the 4.0 version.
Visa and Entry Requirements for Portugal
If you haven't already applied for your visa, it may be too late. See here https://summit.creativecommons.org/travelling-to-portugal/

Accommodations
CC HQ and scholarship recipients are staying at My Story Tejo.

Our CC Portugal team kindly put together suggestions for other hotels https://summit.creativecommons.org/accommodations-in-lisbon/

Currency
Portugal uses Euros (€). See how much your home currency is compared to EUR! https://www.oanda.com/currency/

Lisbon Weather & Terrain
In May, the weather in Lisbon gets up to the low to mid 20's (Celsius) during the day and mid-teens in the evening. You may see a bit of rain. Be sure to have a jacket and long pants. Lisbon has many hills so if you are walking around, you will want to have comfortable shoes. In the event of rain, you may find the beautiful cobbled sidewalks very slippery so please be careful.

Electricity
Portugal uses Type F for their plugs and sockets. Be sure to bring along an adapter if you are coming from a country that does not use the same type. https://www.power-plugs-sockets.com/portugal/ It's a good idea to mark your own adapter so you can tell it's yours. Maybe a sticker or some washi tape or even your initials with a marker.

Language & Maps
People in Lisbon speak Portuguese. Young people and people working in restaurants and shops in Lisbon know enough English for a basic conversation, so it is possible to get by speaking only English. Spanish is widely understood (but Portuguese do not speak Spanish, so do not say "Gracias" and "Adios" just to be polite; say "Obrigada" and "Adeus" instead). Older people might also have some knowledge of French. Maybe you can download a translation app to your phone to help out.

If you are not able to get a sim card for the time you are in Lisbon, you may want to download some offline maps of Lisbon to your phone.

Water
At the Museu Do Oriente, to avoid waste, there will be no bottles of water. Instead, there will be jugs or pitchers of water. Please pack a water bottle so you can fill yours up and carry it with you.

After you arrive
At the Lisbon Airport
It's a good idea to buy a "7 Colinas Card" at the airport and load some funds on it so you can travel around between venues. The transit ticket system can be a bit complicated so having a card is a bit easier. See more below regarding public transit and how to load cards.

At My Story Tejo
For those who received scholarships and for CC HQ, you will be staying the the My Story Tejo Hotel. Mari reached out a few weeks ago to confirm your room and roommate. Please look back in your inbox if you did not see it. Else feel free to reach out to us at summit@creativecommons.org

Check in at the hotel is 3pm. If you arrive earlier than that, they are willing to store your luggage for you so you can leave the hotel and come back later. Check out is 11am.

CC has paid for the room and tax for scholarship recipients. Any other charges will be yours. The hotel may ask for a deposit for incidentals that they can take by credit card or by cash.

Travel between the airport and the hotel
It might be a nice idea to check in the #cc-summit slack channel to see if others are arriving at the same time as you.

Taxi - A taxi should cost you about 20€ and be about 15 to 20 minutes.

Uber, Cabify, MyTaxi - you may have one of these apps installed on your phone to arrange rides. After you pick-up your luggage, you should look for the passenger pick up area labeled "TNC/Rideshares" to meet your driver.

Public Transit - Look for signs in the airport for ground transportation. You will board the metro at Aeroporto station and get on the train in the direction of São Sebastião, ride it for 9 stops then change trains at Alameda station. Board the train towards Cais do Sodré and ride it south for 6 stops. Get off the train at Rossio station and walk one minute to R. Condes de Monsanto 2 (My Story Tejo Hotel). It is a good idea to look at your route before you are in Lisbon so you are familiar with the route and map.

Ground Transportation in Lisbon
It's a good idea to buy a rechargeable green-coloured "7 Colinas" or "Viva Viagem" transport card at the airport. The transit ticket system can be a bit complicated, so having a card is a bit easier.

The card is valid for metro, trams (electrico), urban trains, most buses and ferries. The card costs €0.50 and doesn't include any trips. You can load some money on it right there at the airport metro station, or at the ticket machines (with instructions in English) located in any other metro or train stations.

The card can be charged in different modes:

1) Single ticket: single ticket valid for bus and metro ("Carris/Metro") (costs €1.50 and is valid for 1h00); single ticket valid for trains ("CP") (costs vary depending on the journey, and is valid for 1h30)

2) Day pass: day pass for metro, buses and trams ("Carris/Metro") (costs €6.40); day pass for metro, buses, trams and trains ("Carris/Metro/CP") (costs €10,55)

3) Zapping (minimum charge €3.00): you can use it in buses (costs €1.35 and is valid for 1h00), in metros (costs €1,33 each journey), and trains (costs €1.90 and is valid for 2h00).

Be aware: This card lets you load just one kind of ticket at a time, so you cannot load new tickets if there are any valid tickets still on the card. Therefore, for instance, if you have put a single bus/metro ticket onto the card, you cannot charge Zapping money onto it until the ticket has been used. You will need to have 2 cards, if you want to have different tickets at the same time.

SIM Cards & Cellphones
There are kiosks in the airport where you can get a temporary sim card. It should cost about 15 or 20 EUR for a sim card with data for a week or so. MEO or Vodafone are both reliable carriers.

If you aren't able to do this at the airport, you can look for other locations in Lisbon through each of their websites:
Guías de dominio público
2018-09-14T15:53:39Z

CCID-andresdelgadoec: /* Recomendaciones */

Naturaleza legal no vinculante

Sharpies, post its at Info Desk on 2nd floor (you will need to return unused items after your session).

Flip charts and markers will be in each room.

Kensington (both sections) and Parkdale (both sections) will have white boards and markers. Sessions in SoCo (all sections) will have only flip charts.

Printing
There will be no printing available at the event. If you require any printed materials, you might try The Printing House (this location is a 5 minute indoor walk from the venue) but only open Monday to Friday. There is also The FedEx Print Shop at Queen and York St. nearby or another print shop.

Google Docs Notes
We will shortly be adding a link to a Google Docs meeting notes template to your session description on the Sched.com website.

We ask that all speakers take responsibility for identifying one volunteer in your session to take notes for the benefit of those who cannot attend. The templates are set up to be editable by anyone with the link. After your session ends, your meeting notes will be changed to read-only.

The template is very simple and is designed for ease of use. You may wish to go to your notes doc ahead of time to fill in the date, time, title, and presenter name details, to save time for your note taker at the beginning of your session.

In Session
No introducer will be provided; please introduce yourselves at the beginning of your session.

No moderator will be provided, unless you have specifically notified Terry of one to be listed in your session.

Storage
We are not able to provide secure storage for any materials for you before or after your session; or before, between, or after the Open Bazaar. If you are staying at the Delta Hotel we strongly recommend that you keep all materials in your room. If you need porters to move items back and forth, you may contact the hotel front desk to arrange those services if needed, however you will be responsible for the cost of any hotel staff assistance if this is required.

Schedule
We have recently had some minor schedule shifts, in order to accommodate the logistics of certain room changeovers. Please reconfirm the time, location, and duration of your session on Sched. Some sessions came out a little longer, a small number have been shortened by a few minutes.

There will be a large printed version of the schedule posted on the third floor near the registration desk. This is based on the state of the schedule as of two days ago. Because the times and rooms are subject to change, the online schedule will always be the most correct version.

There is no Sched mobile app, use https://ccglobalsummit2018.sched.com/ even on mobile. The design works well on phones and tablets.

Add social media and websites to your speaker profiles to make it easier for people to reach you!

You have permissions on Sched to edit your own descriptions and add media and attachments (but any title changes and speaker addition/removal still need to come through [mailto:terry@creativecommons.org Terry Williams].)

If you have NOT received your Sched invitation to create your profile, or if you need a password reset, please contact Sched support at [mailto:support@sched.com support@sched.com]. Include the event Sched URL (https://ccglobalsummit2018.sched.com/) in your request to them. They are very responsive.

Meeting rooms
Room dimensions are on the Delta Hotel website.

Bring your own laptop with any presentation materials. No computers are provided in the rooms.

Power and HDMI connections provided only. Internet will be by wi-fi; details provided upon check in at the Summit registration desk.

We will have AV tech support available to help you get connected at the start of your session, if needed, but you will need to bring any adapters required to let your device connect to the projectors via HDMI.

Meeting rooms have the same shared wi-fi as the rest of the space. There are no hardwired network ports available. If your presentation relies on content available online, we recommend you confirm that this will work over wifi before your scheduled session. Also, it would be a good idea to have a backup copy available locally on your device, in case of connectivity problems during your session.

Each room will have a volunteer room assistant to help you with minor tasks and to assist those attending your session. There will also be two “floating” helpers around, who the room assistant can hand issues off to of they become more complicated, or to find one of our AV professionals to come help with your setup.

Open Bazaar
The format is not like a normal Summit presentation. Plan to adapt your materials and information to “poster session” or “trade show” format.

We cannot guarantee that you will have access to power at the Open Bazaar. If you will be relying on your laptop please charge the battery ahead of time.

You will each have one large, round banquet-style table with chairs. Tables will be numbered according to the listing details in Sched.

No screens or projectors will be provided for the Open Bazaar.

All materials will need to be brought into room prior and removed after by presenter.
Visa and Entry Requirements for Canada
The Government of Canada has recently updated the requirements for everyone entering the country. Creative Commons has set up a webpage dedicated to this topic, and all travellers are strongly encouraged to refer to the information on this page: https://summit.creativecommons.org/traveling-to-canada/

Accommodations
Toronto is a remarkable venue for an international gathering of minds, however it can be an expensive city to visit. Guest rooms are available at the Delta Hotel Toronto, where the Summit will be held, starting at $420 CAD per night. Creative Commons has arranged for special discounted group rates at a number of alternate hotels in downtown Toronto. Discounted rooms are based on availability, so don't delay in booking your hotel or you might miss out! You can find more information about this at https://summit.creativecommons.org/accommodation/

Canadian Currency
The Canadian dollar is used in Canada. Most places take credit cards but it's a good idea to have some on hand for small purchases. If you can't get any exchanged at home, you can get it at the airport.

Toronto Weather
The days will see the temperature about 10 °C (40’s in F) and evenings will drop to the low single digits (30’s in F). Be sure to bring a jacket because it won't be warm. A bit of rain is likely.

Electricity
Canada's electrical supply is 120 Volts and 60 Hertz (cycles per second). You may need an adapter or a voltage converter depending on where you're coming from. See here for more info: http://www.power-plugs-sockets.com/canada/

After you arrive
Travel between the airport and the hotel
Best option for YYZ Union Pearson Express The hotel is a 5 minute indoor walk from where the UP train drops you off at Union Station. You can buy a ticket beforehand online or at the station before you board. This is the fastest and most cost efficient route (just $12 CAD). You can board at Pearson in Terminal 1. When you step off the train at Union station, simply exit the station, take a left and go up the escalators, walk 2 minutes down the skywalk and you'll see a door on your left to enter the hotel. There will be lots of hotel signage.

Other option for YYZ: Taxi or limo service Like most international airports, there will be plenty of taxi and limos that can take you into the city. The cost is about $50 CAD each way and most cars are equipped with credit card machines but it’s a good idea to double check when you get in if you don’t have Canadian currency.

One more option for YYZ You could also take public transit (TTC). Outside of the airport, you can hop on the 192 Airport Rocket bus, it will take you to Kipling subway station, you would ride the train east to St. George Station, then head southbound on another subway train to Union station. One way fare is $3.25 CAD.

One option for YTZ: A taxi ride should be between 5 and 10 minutes and cost you about $10–12 CAD.

Other option for YTZ: the free shuttle will drop you off at the Royal York hotel, which is just a 5 minute walk (outdoors) to the hotel.

One more option for YTZ You could hop on the TTC streetcar (509, Harbourfront, eastbound) for about 10 minutes.

Transit
The TTC is the local transit system, and can get you pretty much anywhere in the city through a combination of buses, streetcars and subways. Drivers are helpful, and be sure to get a transfer when you board if you're paying with cash or tokens. You may also choose to purchase a presto card at Union station if you think you'll be taking multiple rides.

If you're out and about and you feel lost, if you can see the CN Tower, keep walking towards it and you'll lead yourself back to the venue.

Bike Share
Toronto has a really great bike share program, which you can use to get almost anywhere you want to go.

SIM Cards & Cellphones
If you haven't added any international roaming to your phone, you might want to pick up a temporary sim card.

7-11 has a good program: http://www.speakout7eleven.ca/ Most of the other service providers will be able to issue you one but it will be more expensive and you may need to jump through a hoop or two to get it. More info here: http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/Canada and here: http://www.blogto.com/tech/2015/07/prepaid_mobile_phone_plans_in_toronto/

Roam might also be worth looking into if you're doing your research ahead of time!

CC Staff, scholarship recipients, and some others are also staying overnight at the same hotel.

Registration
Simply show a piece of identification to a person at the registration desk to get in. Do not lose your badge, it is your access pass for the whole weekend.
Printing Services
There will be no printing available at the event. If you require any printed materials, you might try The Printing House (this location is a 5 minute indoor walk from the venue) but only open Monday to Friday. There is also The FedEx Print Shop at Queen and York St. nearby or another print shop. You can also refer to our section below on the Toronto Public Library System; many of the branches offer printing services.

Meeting Spaces
We realize that with such a talented, motivated, enthusiastic, and energetic group of Commoners descending on Toronto, many of you will likely want to hold meetings separate from the ones schedule during the Summit.

Last year we received a lot of feedback from Summiteers that they would have liked more spaces for small informal/ad-hoc gatherings for two to four people. We heard you! For Global Summit 2018 we are working with the hotel to set up numerous small tables and chairs in the various large open spaces in the hotel hallways. We will be squeezing in as many of these as possible, which will be available on a first-come basis. These will be there for your use from Friday, April 13 through Sunday, April 15.

Additionally, some of you have expressed an interest in holding more formal meetings, before, during, and after the Summit. CC does not have any additional meeting room space available at the Delta to offer you. Meeting rooms at the Delta are quite expensive, in the order of $600+ CAD for the day. Even the guest rooms at the hotel start at $420 per night!

You are in luck, however, because Toronto is a city rich in meeting spaces that are available for community groups. Many of the options listed below are free of charge, others are available for a nominal cost. In all cases demand is high, so you should make your arrangements as soon as you know your needs. Some are located downtown, while others are in unexpected corners of the city. Our public transit system works really well - consider using this as an opportunity to explore a part of Toronto you might not otherwise have visited!

Non-Civic Community Spaces
There are several organizations (both religious and secular) located downtown that offer spaces for community groups. Those listed below are all well-known in Toronto as safe, accommodating, non-judgemental, and supportive environments for community-minded gatherings and meetings.

Holy Trinity Church

Civic Spaces
The City of Toronto operates numerous facilities where meeting space is available to the public. These are located throughout the Toronto area, and most are easily accessible by subway, bus, or streetcar.

The Toronto Public Library System
Although the libraries are technically civic spaces, we felt they deserved their own separate mention. Toronto has a remarkable public library system, with 100 branches throughout the city. The crown jewel is the Metro Toronto Reference Library, which features abundant open space for small meetings, as well as bookable spaces for larger groups or for more privacy. The closest public library to the Delta Toronto Hotel is City Hall Branch; it is a smaller branch that doesn't have meeting rooms, but you can always find a space to work or meet at one of the reading tables. You can find a complete list of spaces to meet and work at the Toronto Public Library on their website.

Toronto's public libraries offer free wireless internet, desktop computers for your use, printing and photocopying services, spaces that are safe and clean, and knowledgable reference staff with whom you can consult on many topics and services. Some branches also offer scanners, 3D printers, and other specialty hardware that you can sign up to use for free, and they have support staff who can show you how to use them if you have questions. Refer to the detailed listings for the individual branches for more information.

Meeting at Coffee Shops
No, really, Toronto has several great coffee shops downtown that have nice, large tables that would be perfect for meetings for small groups of 4 - 6 people. And the coffee isn't bad either. Most of them offer free wifi, and the cost is as low (or as high) as your favourite caffeinated beverage. In particular we recommend these options:

Dark Horse Espresso Bar (specifically their location at 215 Spadina Avenue)

Boxcar Social (which is right down the street from the Delta Hotel)

Meeting at Bars
There are a few bars that are nearby that can accommodate larger groups (8+!) but aren't likely to have wifi. Here are a few suggestions:
CCID-elopio: Traducción de What are Creative Commons licenses?
