3.0 VISION
 +

 +
To encourage creativity through information and knowledge-sharing, and to encourage Creative Commons Licensing in Nigeria. Access to knowledge and knowledge sharing are concepts that have great potentials to serve the needs of the huge educational sector in Nigeria. The same goes for the rapidly growing creative industry and its teaming creative individuals in need of base resources to further ignite their creative instincts. Creative Commons licensing model could serve as a strategic policy initiative for government to address some of the challenges to access to educational resources for both teachers and students. The success of CC in driving these goals will depend on creating awareness about the nature and benefits of CC licensing and securing government support and endorsement. A strong CC presence in Nigeria will strengthen the synergy geared towards entrenching CC licenses and its objectives in the region.
 +

 +
3.0 MISSION
 +

 +
To build a community of creative minds and grow a strong network that will encourage knowledge-building and information-sharing through training, out-reach, workshops and related events.
 +

 +
4.0 PRIORITY GOALS
 +

 +
* Build and strengthen CC Community in Nigeria by utilising every available opportunity to enlighten people about the existence of CC in Nigeria and the various ways by which they can participate in and/or benefit from its activities.
 +
* Promote the use of CC licenses by members of the various communities in the creative industries in Nigeria.
 +
* Create awareness and promote CC policies and best practices in all spheres in Nigeria – Host a series of trainings, workshops, etc: Awareness of creative commons licensing and models is still very low. Moreover, there is a sense of misgiving about CC licenses among the Nigerian creatives and policy makers. The former mainly conceive of CC as detrimental to their interests, while the later regard it as ‘another scheme’ make money under the guise of running an NGO. Thus, CC Nigeria will work hard to dissuade such misgivings and misconceptions of CC as detrimental to some interests, and for the public to be more informed about CC.
 +
* Strengthen ties with other CC jurisdictions and CC Headquarters – Contribute to mailing lists and other activities: The need to strengthen ties stems from the importance of building and benefiting from synergies that such connections will create. Moreover, it will provide more visibility to the local community which will serve to further strengthen it.
 +
* Plan for future sustainability: The success and strength of CC Nigeria depends on the capacity and ability to be sustainable. This depends on many factors including leadership, funding, institutions, etc. There is need to build a solid and sustainable CC structure.

5.3 Translate CC Licence deeds to raise awareness amongst diverse communities. (Public Lead, Tech Lead and OER)
 +

 +
Hausa is the predominant language spoken in Northern Nigeria environs. In Southern Nigeria, ‘Pidgin English’ appears more widespread than any other native language (mother tongue). Pidgin is spoken in different versions in all the three regions of the South and even the Middle Belt. The goal of CC Nigeria here will be to translate CC into these two languages in order to reach a wider public. It could also serve as a publicity strategy because of its possibility to attract attention.

The building of the Community requires an evidenced-based approach relying on case studies and research to interrogate the issues involved.
