The Internet and digital technologies have transformed how people learn. Educational resources are no longer static and scarce, but adaptable and widely available, allowing educational institutions, teachers, and learners to actively participate in a global exchange of knowledge via Open Educational Resources (OER). We're gathering together preeminent individuals involved in shaping the future of education and harnessing the power of the internet and digital technologies as forces for good in this field. There will be a presentation period, followed by an informal panel/discussion where we'll explore more in depth the issues, challenges, and opportunities emerging in the field of education.
This is a great chance to meet CC staff, learn more about Creative Commons, and connect with Bay Area creators and innovators. Hope to see you there!

Panel discussion about CC from an international perspective, featuring:

- CC Arab World Media & Development Manager Donatella della Ratta
- International Project Manager Michelle Thorne
- David Sasaki, Outreach Director for Global Voices.
This will be a great chance to learn about how globally diverse communities use Creative Commons, as well as challenges faced in various regions and projects around the world. How do sharing norms, for example, or compelling use cases differ from country to country? What works in one context may not carry over to another, so where do models fail and what lessons can be learned? How can specific fields, such as open education or citizen journalism, solve some of these issues and foster healthier sharing communities?

Theme
- This special ccSalon SF will be a celebration of CC's 7 years and the wrap-up of our 2009 annual fundraising campaign.
- This will be a great chance to meet and talk to members of the CC staff and connect with other free culture enthusiasts from the Bay Area, or just learn more about Creative Commons. We hope to see you there!
Agenda
- Twitter's General Counsel, Alexander Macgillivray, will be giving a talk. Alex was previously Deputy General Counsel at Google and has been a supporter of Creative Commons from our very beginning.
- A unique installation of the dublab/Creative Commons art and music collaboration, Into Infinity (http://intoinfinity.org/), which is built on audio loops and circular canvases paired together in infinite combination. Salon-goers will have the chance to help draw on some of these 12-inch canvases as well as participate in a live recording of an 8-second audio loop. We encourage you to bring a noisemaker (kazoo, bell, travel guitar, etc.) to make some sweet sounds!
- CC's Vice President, Mike Linksvayer, will highlight some of CC's major accomplishments from 2009 and talk about what's in store for 2010!

- Creative Commons, KALW, and Chicago Public Radio’s Sound Opinions are pleased to present author Greg Kot in conversation with music journalist David Downs. Kot's new book, "Ripped: How the Wired Generation Revolutionized Music," explores the changing face of the music industry. Downs and Kot will discuss the book, as well as how digital sharing and participatory culture are shaping how music is created and consumed. Audience questions and discussion will follow the conversation.

Theme
- The digital intersection of art, history, and culture, and how CC can play a defining role in enriching all three.
Presenters
- Francesco Spagnolo, Director of Research and Collections at the Magnes Museum. Francesco will explore the sharing and marketing of cultural heritage through the lenses of the Magnes' “Digital Narratives,” a project that seeks an alignment between a narrative approach to history, a collaborative practice in the interpretation of cultural history, and the uses of technology and online social media.
- Dave Toole, CEO and Founder, Outhink Media, will present on how storytelling bridges the cultural and business arenas, outlining the challenges posed by the new social media and the crucial role played by research in information technology.
- Nancy Van House, Professor, UC Berkeley School of Information, will respond to the other presenters by reflecting on the way in which academia is looking at social media and personal/historical digital archiving, exploring the human interactions that populate the online world.
