The set of pages you are currently on are the pages that were maintained during the license development process, and provide a detailed history of the drafting of the license.)''

Version 4.0 of the CC license suite was [https://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/40768 published on 25 November 2013], after CC conducted a multi-year versioning process. The first public discussions of 4.0 were held at CC's [[Global Summit 2011]]. The public process was kicked off with a [http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/29639 blog post] laying out some of the key reasons for pursuing a new version at that time.

Since CC's launch in 2001, five major versions of the [[license versions|of the license suite]] have been published. CC licenses constitute a [http://creativecommons.org/who-uses-cc globally-recognized framework], developed in consultation with legal experts and CC affiliate institutions in [[CC_Affiliate_Network|over 70 jurisdictions]]. Over 500 million works on the Web are under a CC license. Today, Creative Commons licenses, public domain tools, and supporting technologies are the global standard for sharing in culture, education, government, science, and more.

Version 4.0 represented a tremendous opportunity to ensure the license suite was ideally crafted to further CC's [http://creativecommons.org/about vision and mission] over the next decades. We are thankful for the input of all of those who participated in this important discussion.

=== Goals and objectives ===

The Creative Commons staff, board, and community identified several goals for the 4.0 license suite, tied to achieving CC's goals and mission. These include:

:: ''Internationalization'' – further adapt the core suite of international licenses to operate globally, ensuring they are robust, enforceable and easily adopted worldwide;

:: ''Interoperability'' – maximize interoperability between CC licenses and other licenses to reduce friction within the commons, promote standards and stem license proliferation;

:: ''Long-lasting'' — anticipate new and changing adoption opportunities and legal challenges, allowing the new suite of licenses to endure for the foreseeable future;

:: ''Data/PSI/Science/Education'' — recognize and address impediments to adoption of CC by governments as well as other important, publicly-minded institutions in these and other critical arenas; and

:: ''Supporting Existing Adoption Models and Frameworks'' – remain mindful of and accommodate the needs of our existing community of adopters leveraging pre-4.0 licenses, including governments but also other important constituencies.

=== Organization and purpose of this wiki ===

This wiki served as the central location for documenting key discussion topics and suggestions for improving the license suite in version 4.0, together with supporting information and relevant links. Its function was to supplement, not replace, the CC license discuss email list [http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/cc-licenses (subscribe)] that served as the main discussion forum for the versioning process (as with prior versioning efforts). It is now maintained as an archive for those who wish to read the details of the versioning process and the discussion proposals on the various topics covered.

CC prepared pages on the key topics identified. Many topics that did not fit into the prepared framework began in the [[4.0/Sandbox|Sandbox]], with some eventually moving to individual topic pages.

=== Process ===
As a license steward and steward of the commons, our goal was to ensure utmost transparency and inclusiveness. The 4.0 process was conducted in line with our prior versioning efforts, with periodic publication of [[4.0/Drafts|license drafts]] for public comment and documentation of issue resolution as it occurred. One important difference from our past efforts, however, was a formal requirements gathering period that ran for a period of time prior to publication of the first draft. During this period, we strongly encouraged the broadest participation possible by everyone with an interest in the commons and the role open licensing plays in its future.

The primary discussion forum for issues relating to the 4.0 versioning process was the [http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/cc-licenses CC license development email list].
Various aspects of the license suite were improved in the version 4.0 licenses, after gathering and rigorously debating and analyzing these items along with corresponding proposals for handling them. CC encouraged the broadest possible engagement in this process; this was a particularly important goal during the requirements gathering stage where everyone was strongly encouraged (and our affiliates expected) to provide feedback on proposed changes and suggest other changes they would like to see.

[[License_Versions|Prior versioning efforts]] were also reviewed, including relevant discussions of important topics previously debated by the CC community and discussions related to their resolution. Throughout the process, we took these into account, particularly where a request was made to revisit and potentially change direction in 4.0.
CC Salons are global, informal events focused on building a community of artists, developers, and creators of all kinds around Creative Commons licenses, standards, and technology. The first event took place in San Francisco in 2006 with the idea to replicate in other locations internationally. Since then salons have sprung up in cities [[All Salons|around the world]]. Whether you're familiar with Creative Commons or are brand new to the concepts behind it, we encourage you to check out a salon near you.

The format for each event varies based on the location, but the overall concept is simple. CC Salons are open forums for people who are interested in the issues surrounding Creative Commons and global participatory culture. If you're interested in attending - check out the [[#Upcoming_Salons|upcoming salons]]. If your city doesn't have one - feel free to [[#Resources_for_starting_your_own_CC_Salon|start your own]]. Check out the [[#Resources_for_starting_your_own_CC_Salon|resources]] for starting your salon for extra info.
}}

== Resources for starting your own CC Salon ==

There are a few important items to consider before you start a Salon. These are by no means requirements but rather guidelines and tips that we have discovered in planning our own Salons - they should be seen as a starting point meant to spark ideas for your own Salon as they are all unique. The list format (and some of the content) is very much inspired by the [http://dorkbot.org/startadorkbot/ wonderful folks at dorkbot].

===Theme===
It is important to remember that each location will have its own unique slant on the Salon format. While the Salons are meant to function generally as a way for people interested in CC to meet up and socialize, Salons can (and should) focus on a specific theme - the arts, computer programming, social networking, etc. This theme needn't be static - it can change every Salon - but it helps to get speakers who will be able to speak on similar topics.

===Frequency===
To ensure a strong turnout, it is important to understand how often your audience is willing to meet up. Similarly, think about how many presenters and projects you can rotate through on a continuous basis. These two factors could mean a Salon happening every month, every 6 months, or even every year - each locale is different. The better you can space the Salons according to your audience and presenters, the better turn out and dialogue you will have, making the Salon more successful as a whole.

===Venue===
Having the Salon in a consistent space will help ensure repeat attendance. Reach out to local art galleries, bars/pubs, and even universities to see if they can offer you a block of time to use their space for free. The space doesn't need to be extravagant and it is good to remember that a small but full space is more conducive to discussion than a large but empty one.

===Equipment===
It is important to allow presenters the ability to showcase media - be it video, audio, slideshow, or other. Speakers and a projector aren't essential to the Salons but they will make them run much smoother. If your venue doesn't have those things on hand, ask around to your friends and co-workers. More likely than not someone will have something that will work.

===Cost===
All of the CC-run Salons are free and open to the public and there is little to no money spent on additional resources. We encourage you to make do with the sparsest of budgets - in regards to promotion we are happy to [http://creativecommons.org/weblog blog] any Salons happening and [http://creativecommons.org/contact/#community CC's mailing-lists] are a great way to promote as well.

===Format===
CC Salons tend to be run in an open manner, allowing people to mingle and socialize as they see fit. Outside of this there are often two to three presenters who will speak to their own use of CC licenses, be it personal or for a larger organization they are part of. This is by no means a rigid guideline but rather a starting point - feel free to screen a film, hold a panel discussion, have a live music performance, or anything else that may be relevant. Most importantly, remember to have fun!

===Using CC's Logos and Marks===
Use of CC's logos and trademarks, even in connection with a CC Salon, is subject to our [http://creativecommons.org/policies Policies]. You should review those before using our logos and marks. If you are interested in using our logos and marks in ways not contemplated by that policy, or if you are interested in developing a new logo for your Salon that incorporates one of our protected trademarks or logos, please ask us first by contacting us at salon[at]creativecommons.org. You should also contact us first if you are interested in creating new swag that incorporates our logos or marks, whether or not you plan to give them away or sell them.
Both CC search and The List are based on GNU FM. They require PHP 5.3, MySQL or MariaDB and a web server (Apache, typically... but others will probably be okay) plus php-curl, php-adodb, php-gd and php-smarty. If you're developing on GNU/Linux, you can usually get these from your package manager. On OS X, you'll have most luck with [http://brew.sh/ Homebrew].
You may also need to symlink or alter the path in templating.php to your Smarty install.
Welcome to the CC Hackspace!
Current projects at CC:

* The List powered by Creative Commons
* CC Search
* CCID
For those of you at MozFest, we have two projects to tell you about:

== The List ==

The List is a new mobile application from Creative Commons. The List enables people to contribute to the commons by taking photographs of interesting things from a list of images put together by Creative Commons and affliiated organizations known as List Makers. The app works on both Android and the mobile web.

All of the resulting images will be released onto sites such as the Internet Archive under CC-BY 4.0. All of our code is under the GNU Affero GPL v3 or later.

* [https://projects.invisionapp.com/share/C71IOF1V8#/screens Prototype screens for the Android app]

== CC Search ==

CC Search (codename: Garmonbozia) is a meta-search engine from CC. We search Flickr, Internet Archive and more and provide a simple, flat set of results that works on any browser and provides a simple, clean way to search by media type and license.

All of our code is under the GNU Affero GPL v3 or later.

* [https://github.com/creativecommons/garmonbozia Check out the code]
* [https://github.com/creativecommons/garmonbozia/issues Open issues for CC Search]

=== Bootstrapping The List webapp and CC Search ===

Both CC search and The List are based on GNU FM. They require PHP 5.3, MySQL or MariaDB and a web server (Apache, typically... but others will probably be okay) plus php-curl, php-adodb, php-gd and php-smarty. If you're developing on GNU/Linux, you can usually get these from your package manager. On OS X, you'll have most luck with [http://brew.sh/ Homebrew].

You may also need to symlink or alter the path in templating.php to your Smarty install.

Ping mattl on #creativecommons-dev or write to [http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/cc-devel cc-devel] with ideas.

{{Best Practice}}

This article describes best practices for marking works licensed with a Creative Commons license or dedicated to the public domain with both human readable and machine readable notices, on the web and otherwise.

Although the importance of human-visible attribution and notice is stressed, this primary focus of this article is machine-readable metadata. Best practice for presentation of human-visible attribution and notice in various formats (apart from collocation with machine-readable equivalents) is currently beyond the scope of this article and will be presented [[Marking|elsewhere]]. An index of specific technical recommendations, organized by file type, is [[:Category:Filetype|available]].

= Principles =

* Copyright notice should be published on the '''web'''. Offline or peer-distributed works should refer to notice published on the web. A web notice allows content to be found via web search, content owners to be found by viewers of untethered works, may be trusted to the extent a web page may be trusted, and allows for further annotation by the owner and others.
* Copyright notice should be '''visible''' and unambiguous to humans and computers, especially the former. Human and computer visible notices should be one and the same.Offline or peer-distributed works should not refer to notice published on the web.
* Copyright notice best practices should be '''general''' rather than applicable only to works offered under one of the Creative Commons licenses.

=Web=

A web page is the preferred venue for published copyright notices. Notices published elsewhere should refer to an equivalent notice published on the web.

<nowiki>This text is licensed to the public under the <a rel="license"
href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/">Creative
Commons Attribution 4.0 License</a>.</nowiki>

That HTML snippet says that the current document is licensed under CC Attribution 4.0. The current document is the default subject,
rel="license"
sets the predicate or verb, the URL in the
href
value sets the object.

For detailed background on the web metadata model and syntax being used, see [[RDFa]].

This use follows the aforementioned principles:

* On the '''web''' (obviously, so long as the HTML page in question is published to a website).
* The metadata is '''visible''' -- it is colocated with an actionable link and may further be styled with CSS for human consumption.
* It is '''general''' -- the model used can accomodate any sort of statement about anything that has a URI and the
license
predicate can take any license that has a URI as its object, not only a Creative Commons license.

Now we will see how to use the model to further annotate works with licensing-relevant metadata.

=== Attribution ===

A licensor can specify how they wish to be attributed for use of their work (see, for example, § 4(b) of https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode). This includes:

# The title of the work
# The name of the person, group or organization to attribute the work to
# The URL to link the attribution to

Ideally this information would also be available as machine-readable metadata. As an example, this could be encoded in the following triples (assuming the work in question is the current document):

# <> dc:title "Compact Representation of Blank Pages" .
# <> cc:attributionName "James Roberts" .
# <> cc:attributionURL <http://example.org/crobp.html> .

Why the new properties?

# dcterms:rightsHolder and dc:creator don't say which should be attributed -- or if someone else should be; cc:attributionName has the semantics necessary for the task.
# The attribution URL will often be the current URL, but we need some way to specify that it should be cited; cc:attributionURL provides this.

Fortunately RDFa allows us to annotate human readable notices and include both the custom properties needed for attribution as well as additional useful properties, e.g.

Compact Representation of Blank Pages by
James Roberts, a translation
of 'Paginas Blancos Si!', is licensed to the public under
the Creative
Commons Attribution 4.0 License.

This produces the triples above plus these:

# <> dc:creator <http://example.org/jr.html> .
# <> dc:source <http://example.org/bps.html> .
# <> license <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/> .

=== Included Objects ===

Objects included in web pages, such as images, should be annotated as above within their "host" web pages. Ideally all included objects should also embed object [[:Category:Filetype|format native]] notice and metadata as described below, but this is only crucial for objects where the publisher intends for or is concerned about distribution outside the context of the "host" web page.

Metadata about include objects that have their own URIs should be qualified with
about
, as
rel="license"
without an
about
attribute makes a statement about the current document (which is the "host" web page). Example:

<nowiki>Photo licensed under <a about="http://example.com/some-image.png"
rel="license" href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/">cc by 4.0</a>.</nowiki>

See the RDFa Primer on [http://www.w3.org/2006/07/SWD/RDFa/primer/#beyond-current-document beyond the current document] for additional examples.

=== More Rights ===

A page may provide any sort of metadata for itself and its included components. The following example has some obviously useful statements:

<nowiki><span rel="dc:type" href="http://purl.org/dc/dcmitype/Sound"/>Audio</span> <a rel="license"
href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/">(cc)</a> <span property="dc:date">2006</span>.
See <a rel="cc:morePermissions" href="http://johnsmith.com/store">my store</a> to obtain permissions not
granted by the CC license, signed CDs, and concert tickets.</nowiki>

In addition to the familiar
license
statement and
dc:type
from Dublin Core we have
cc:morePermissions
. The intention of
cc:morePermissions
is to point to a URL at which one can discover permissions outside the scope of those granted to the public by the licensor via a CC license.

See [[CCPlus]] for more information on specifying
cc:morePermissions
.

=== Interoperability with other web-based metadata formats ===

==== RDF/XML ====

RDF/XML is another RDF serialization that can be used to make any statement that can be made with RDFa. RDF/XML may be

ed in the

of a web page or [[Extend_Metadata#Embedding_RDF_in_HTML|included in HTML comments]], as the deprecated CC recommendation advocated.

RDF/XML is perfectly interoperable with RDFa, but the latter is preferred as it is collocated with human-visible content.

==== Microformats ====

[[RelLicense|rel=license]] is both an [http://microformats.org/wiki/elemental-microformat elemental microformat] (specifically [http://microformats.org/wiki/rel-license rel license]) and an [[RDFa]] statement. Compound Microformats should be interoperable via [http://www.w3.org/TR/grddl/ GRDDL] or [http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/BestPractices/HTML/2006-08-08-hgrddl-xhtml1 hGRDDL].

Use cases for licensing and related metadata as microformats may be found at [http://microformats.org/wiki/licensing on the microformats wiki]; they remain hypothetical as microformats, but generalize to use cases for Creative Commons web metadata.

==== Feeds ====

RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, and Atom 1.0 syndication formats each may include [[Syndication|license annotations]]. These should also be reflected on web pages referenced by feed items.

= Non-Web =

Objects not native to the web should adhere to the following principles regarding license notice and metadata.

* To the extent possible copyright notice should be '''visible''' to users of the licensed object.
* The licensed object should contain a '''web reference''' to a web page that provides an equivalent licensing notice for the object in question. This makes a non-web object's licesning status as certain as that of a web page's status -- if the web reference does not agree with the non-web object's license notice, ignore the latter.
* To the extent possible license notice provided by non-web objects should use mechanisms and conventions in '''common use''' for the format of the non-web object in question.

We will now apply these principles to a variety of content formats, after describing two building blocks for Non-Web metadata -- web statement metadata and XMP.

== Web Statement ==

The web page that provides licensing notice equivalent to any included in the object itself may be only human readable. Ideally the web page will publish metadata that is explicitly associated with the object in question. To do this the object must be identified, ideally with a content-derived identifier, such that a client may verify that the web page metadata concerns precisely the object in question. An example of a content-derived identifier is a content hash.

Following is an example of RDFa describing a resource indentified by a hash:

<nowiki>
'Good Dream' is licensed under
CC BY.
</nowiki>

Produces the following triple:

<urn:sha1:DATAG7ENBVHFNQPM4W626VDVK25RYECI> license <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/> .

== XMP ==

[[XMP]] has the broadest support of any embedded metadata format (perhaps it is the only such format with anything approaching broad support) across many different media formats. With the exception of media formats where a workable embedded metadata format is already ubiquitous, Creative Commons recommends adopting XMP as an embedded metadata standard and use of the following two fields in particluar:

* Web reference: value of
xapRights:WebStatement

* License: value of
cc:license

== Audio ==

Human visible metadata is not possible, and audio notice is not acceptable in most music contexts. With the exception of MP3 and OGG below, XMP embedded metadata is recommended.

=== MP3 ===

[[MP3]] is the primary exception to the XMP recommendation above, as ID3 is widely supported. The following two fields are recommended:

* Web reference: value of
WOAF
("official audio file" URL)
* License: value of
WCOP
(copyright URL)

=== OGG ===

"Vorbis Comments" are widely supported for [[OGG]] files. The following two fields are recommended:

* Web reference: value of
CONTACT

* License: value of
LICENSE

Note that OGG is a container format that also supports video.

== Still Images ==

Although possible, visible attribution and copyright notice generally either does not fit in an image due to size or aesthetic limitations. Even where possible human-visible notice will not be collocated with machine-readable metadata (for bitmap formats currently in use).

For embedded metadata XMP is recommended.

== Video ==

Visible attribution and copyright notice is generally provided in video frames (e.g., credit roll) or [[Marking_work#Video|overlays]].

Preferably relevant regions of the video will be clickable or otherwise interactively linked with web pages.

There are many video formats, each with its own ill-supported embedded metadata specification (if any). Creative Commons recommends adopting XMP across video formats, with the possible exception of OGG (see audio above).

== Document formats ==

"Document" formats meaning word processor, presentation and spreadsheet document files or their output formats such as PDF.

All of these formats are intended for human consumption and all modern versions support web links, so '''visibility''' is easy -- the license and '''web reference''' should be noted in thee document text wherever '''common use''' dictates a copyright notice would appear. Looks like we just took care of the other principles as well.

Many document formats support some form of embedded metadata that can be accessed, e.g., by selecting
File|Document Properties
from a menu. Where such metadata includes licensing or copyright-relevant fields, these should be populated with first priority to the '''web reference''' and second priority to the URL of the license the document in question is under.

Ideally these metadata fields should be used to directly populate the human-visible parts of the document, e.g., via a document field, as is typically used to automatically place page numbers and document titles throughout such documents. This gives us the best of both worlds -- any software that indexes embedded metadata can easily find license information, and that information is perfectly reflected in notices humans see.

Details of how metadata may be embedded in specific file formats is available [[:Category:Filetype|here]].

==Vision==

===Why is Creative Commons important for the jurisdiction?===

Overall, the CC licenses provide the necessary debate on Intellectual Property Law in Argentina, offering legal alternatives which are viable, sustainable and which propose a model of creation and circulation of culture based on diversity.

Regarding the specific role of licenses, the free culture movement in Argentina is expanding from its original core -mainly associated with free software, and some independent art initiatives-to broader public, especially in academic through open access initiatives.

Creative Commons provides a set of legal tools effective, practical and easily usable for large user profiles, which are strategic for these initiatives, and that's the reason why they have been chosen as licenses in most of cultural projects. In that sense, it is important to strengthen the understanding of new users of CC licenses, about its significance, its legal compliance, among other things that have begun to reveal as problematic issues in license adoption.

===What do you think makes a successful jurisdiction project?===

*The relationship between daily activities of affiliated organizations and goals and initiatives of Creative Commons: The affiliated NGOs already have experience on using CC licenses and are pretty well known in our region. Wikimedia local chapter is one of the oldest chapters in the world, and is leading the creation of other chapters in the region. FVL is a 10 years old free software and free culture organization in Argentina, with six books published on the field of human rights, intellectual property and access to knowledge, along with brochures and other dissemination material. It also has experience in working with organisations from other parts of the world. Both organizations also have strong ties with local media and journalists and both are active participants of the free software community in Argentina.
*The strength of community, its ability to embody commited new members and to spread the activities and ideology: In this direction, there are communities of free culture that Creative Commons needs to work with, along with the strengthen of a local community of Creative Commons, gathering to all creators that already know and use the licenses.
*The role played by both organisations in the intellectual property debate: in 2011, the intellectual property debate arised very strong in public media, due to two important court cases related to digital content online. Wikimedia community and FVL has been key to the deep understanding of this problem, gaining public exposition, which has also helped to bring light to other forms of production and circulation of culture, such as Creative Commons. This public debate helps us to spread Creative Commons ideas.

===How do you see the jurisdiction project contributing to the CC Affiliate Network?===

The community working in free culture projects in Argentina is active and heterogeneous. Initially the community gathered around the free software proposal, where there is a strong community that shares principles, resources, ways of working and meeting points, etc. Later, authors from other disciplines and cultural fields have been joining the community. In that sense, the concept of free culture, in general, is a catalyst for individual initiatives, and begins to prove very rewarding at crossings that occur between the respective cultural fields.

The role of Creative Commons licenses so far has been primarily as a practical solution to the decision to move production to all rights reserved to no or some restrictions conditions. We believe that our jurisdiction could function as a "conceptual" catalyst (not just pragmatic) of the agents involved in the discussion about the intellectual property of Argentina, and bring that vision and experience to the international network of CC. This seems especially valuable in situations such as the discussion of the Law Lleras of Colombia, or Digital Rate project in Argentina, as a regional network, we can help visualize the problems and strategies to support regional working.

= Priority Goals =

'''What are the three most important focus areas on which the Affiliate Team will work during this time period? Please consider community building and adoption goals among your priorities. '''

1. Focus-area: Community building

* Why is it important?
A strong community that understands the licenses, promotes the free culture and enhances local community participation in the free culture projects, will serve as a good broadcaster of the licenses and its benefits. In 2011 we made some progress, since we participated in different meetings and workshops with artists and creators, and we made interviews for the website that allowed people who had been working with Creative Commons licenses knew of the existence of the local organization. In 2012, there will be local and national meetings that will help us achieving this goal. Also there are two or three main projects of free culture going on in spanish that will help us to reach a broader community than the usual.

* Which communities will benefit? general public, artists, journalists, wikipedians, academic institutions, students, professors.

2. Focus-area: Adoption goals and deep comprehension on license terms

* Why is it important?
To increase the use of CC licenses over copyright is a goal that has been meeting for several years, as part of the work of several local organizations, of which the CC team members participate. For the last years, the adoption of free licenses is expanding gradually to other areas, such as higher education or artistic production not necessarily related to new media and / or software and free culture.
However, one of the problems detected between these groups is the difficulty in understanding the real scope of the license terms, their compatibility with certain applications, or even incorrect interpretations of their legal scope.

* Which communities will benefit? artists, journalists, academic institutions, librarians, editors, students, professors.

3. Focus-area: Communication

* Why is it important?
The communication area has been important during 2011 to help people to deep understand CC licenses, to promote new artists which are giving their first steps with Creative Commons, to make public some important cases of adoption and to make public our agenda as Creative Commons. During 2012, we want to strenght the resolution of doubts about licenses and to help promoting more artists. Also we think we really need to have an official brochure to solve some doubts that we have seen, which really worry to us since they show the lack of comprehension of license terms.
* Which communities will benefit? general public, artists, journalists, wikipedians, academic institutions, librarians, editors, students, professors

4. Focus-area: Education (public universities, OER, Conectar Igualdad)

* Why is it important?
Education is a key area for the dissemination, discussion and implementation of CC licenses, as well as an important field to promote substantive discussions on access to knowledge, culture in digital environments and individual freedoms associated to it.
Priority areas in Argentina are:
* To promote open access, especially within public universities;
* To spread free culture and the CC licenses as an alternative form of artistic production and circulation of culture, in the high school level, especially in colleges publicly funded, that participate in the [http://www.conectarigualdad.gob.ar/ Conectar Igualdad Program];
* To promote OER.
* Which communities will benefit ? students, professors, academic institutions, librarians, editors, authors, general public.

== Project Outputs ==

* Detail tangible project outputs (e.g., events, papers, blog posts, video/films, etc.) for each focus area including an expected date of completion. See also Timeline.

'''The outputs we plan to complete are as follows'''

# Project Output: booklet with FAQs about CC licenses
# Team Member(s) Responsible: Beatriz Busaniche / Juan Pablo Suárez / Evelin Heidel
# How will this output help achieve your goals? The booklet will be used for leaving it in different places related with free culture, to give it away in events we attend and also as a cover letter when going to speak to people interested in the adoption of Creative Commons licenses.

# Project Output: interviews with local artists who are developing CC related projects, such as CC licensed videos.
# Expected start date - Expected date of completion feb. / dec. 2012
# Team Member(s) Responsible: Lila Pagola / Juan Pablo Suárez / Evelin Heidel
# How will this output help achieve your goals? During 2011, the website was crucial to answer all sort of questions of diverse people who had doubts about the licenses. We made some interviews to local projects who didn't have a previous contact with CC Argentina, but the website is short of some dynamic stuff. The proposal now is to make video interviews and also to post more frequently than we have been doing during 2011.
=== 4. Focus-area: Education projects ===
# Project Output: adoption of Creative Commons licenses for research projects, thesis and other educational resources produced in the public university
# Expected start date - Expected date of completion: feb to dec 2011.
# Team Member(s) Responsible: Patricio Lorente / Beatriz Busaniche / Lila Pagola / Evelin Heidel
# How will this output help achieve your goals? This project will promote and provide visibility to CC licenses in the academic field and will also help us promote the debate around free access to knowledge produced with public funding at public institutions.

==Metrics==

Please consider using trackable statistics (such as web traffic or number of license adoptions) when applicable, but only if meaningful.

* How will you measure and evaluate your impact on focus-area 1? number of attendees to events / number of events attended / Number of events organized by our community
* How will you measure and evaluate your impact on focus-area 2? web traffic / questions arised about license adoption
* How will you measure and evaluate your impact on focus-area 3? number of license adoptions in education institutions.
* How will you measure and evaluate your impact on focus-area 4? number of archives released under CC licenses.

==Resources Required==
===People===

* What human resources or expertise must the team seek out or add to your existing resources, if any, in order to achieve your priority goals?

We already have a diverse team, but we lack of legal expertise. As we do not have a lawyer in our team yet, our priority goals for year 2012 are not directly related to legal issues. Our priority goals are more focused on community building and adoption goals, meanwhile we continue the seek of a legal advisor for our local team.

* How will you involve these people? We are already looking for a lawyer, we hope our community building events will help us find interested candidates. We are also talking to legal studios in Argentina and looking for a lawyer in the field of authors rights. We will also ask neighbor jurisdictions like Chile and Columbia for help on this field.

===Technology===

* What technology resources must the team seek out or add to your existing resources, if any, in order to achieve your priority goals?

We already have a strong technological infrastructure provided by USLA, based on free software and open standards, maintained by free software community in Argentina. Having this in mind, we can also offer technical support to other jurisdictions in our region. Both organizations, FVL and WA, are using this infrastructure for their web services, e-mail, wikis, etc.

o How will you obtain these technology resources?

===Materials===

* What material resources must the team seek out or add to your existing resources, if any, in order to achieve your priority goals?

For the events, we will need a room (and conference infraestructure) and travel expenses.

We will also need promotional materials, some of them in spanish. We will need funding for translations, graphic design and printing.

o How will you obtain these material resources?

We usually organize events and conferences with local academic organizations that provide conference infraestructure for free. We will cooperate with UBA, UNC, UNLP and FLACSO in order to do so. We also have support from the Centro Cultural de la Cooperación and Centro Cultural General San Martín, two important cultural centers in the heart of Buenos Aires, that usually provide congress facilities to host our events at no cost.

We will look for sponsors for our events and for printed promotional materials as well.

===Other===

* What other resources must the team seek out or add to all the other resources, if any, in order to achieve your priority goals?
**How will you obtain these other resources?

==Sustainability and Scalability==

* How will you ensure your goals will be completed if unforeseen circumstances interrupt the project, such as changes in the leadership of the project or outputs taking longer to complete than anticipated?

We know that we are mostly volunteers, that's the reason why one of our main goals this first year will be building a community. We have a very diverse team and we are all committed to the goals of this roadmap. We build it, basically, mixing our current activities in order to start working on a solid base. So, FVL and WA already have some of these goals in their working plans and already have teams working on them.

Both, FVL and WA teams are very active in the free culture field since long time ago. Our CC-ar Team includes diverse profiles of recognized people in different areas like design, music, media, wikimedia and academic community as well. Each of them has the capacity to be a team leader, as most of them are already doing so in other projects. That will help us spread the responsibilities among the team. We are all committed to do so to the best of our capacities.

* How will you communicate the project's on-going progress and setbacks within the jurisdiction and the CC Affiliate Network? (e.g. email list updates, meetings, press releases)

We'll use our websites to promote the on-going progress of the projects. But we will also use other tools like the cc-ar mailing list, meetings and press releases as well. Most of the activities related to the wikiworld will be promoted using wikimedia infraestructure as well.

* How will you document the project so that others may replicate or learn from your efforts?

We always publish text material online, however, the public events will be video recorded and we will publish them on different websites like blip.tv and Wikimedia Commons.

==Collaboration==

* Please have a look at other roadmaps.

- How could the jurisdiction's plans help drive or support other jurisdictions' activities?

We do not know if other jurisdictions are working with public media. This is an interesting experience we could actually share with others. Also, our iberoamerican initiative for Wikimedia Communities could help us reinforce the relationship between wikimedia communities and CC comunities in our region.

- What are other jurisdictions doing that might support or contribute to the project?

The OER movement is important in other jurisdictions. So we expect to join the initiatives alredy active in the region, specially Chile, Colombia, Guatemala and Spain.

We will also need support from other spanish speaking jurisdictions in order to fill our legal gap until we find a lawyer in Argentina.

* Would you be interested in mentoring new jurisdiction teams?

Yes, We are not ready for that yet, but we'll be happy to do it anyway!

* Conversely, would you be interested in having a mentor from a more experienced jurisdiction team?

Yes, we'd be thankful to other teams willing to help us. We count on that!

==Regional==

* Suggest three possible projects on which you can collaborate with other teams on a regional level. If you are not yet involved with the regional network, please contact the regional spokesperson (if any) or notify CC HQ to put you in touch with others.

We make part of Libre Bus, a project joint to CC Chile.

* How do you plan to contribute to these projects?

We co-organize activities for LibreBus as local team.

==Translation==

* In what language(s) will you promote CC in the jurisdiction and why?

:Spanish is the official language in Argentina.

* In which of these languages are licenses already available? CC0?

:Spanish, CC0 is not yet available in our language.

* Into which of the remaining languages do you intend to translate the licenses? CC0?

* How will you involve the local language(s) community?

The Licensing Suite

Creative Commons offers a core suite of six copyright licenses written to conform to international treaties governing copyright. The international licenses, as well as existing ported licenses, are all intended to be effective anywhere in the world, with the same effect. In the past, when it was demonstrated that a ported license was needed, Creative Commons worked with experts to craft a localized version of its six, core international licenses. Over 50 ported license suites exist. These ported licenses are based on and compatible with the international license suite, differing only in that they have been modified to reflect local nuances in how terms and conditions are expressed, drafting protocols and, of course, language. They are effective worldwide, as is the international license suite. The most recent international license suite available is [[Version_4|4.0]]. Version 4.0 will not be ported absent compelling circumstances; CC will begin considering requests to port the 4.0 suite in mid-2014.
