This page is to remember Atty. Jimmy Soriano and the great contribution made to the Creative Commons community.

Jimmy first joined the CC community in 2005 when he launched our CC Philippines team. Over the past 7 years he has been a constant presence at CC events, a major contributor to discussion and debates, and a particularly influential figure in our Asia-Pacific community. During 2008-09 he served as head of the CC Asia and the Pacific Community, launching its first newsletter and hosting its conference in Manila in 2009. Jimmy's friendliness, patience and wisdom made him a natural leader in our community, taking the role of mentor and adviser to many new affiliates in his region.

In his role both in CC and as Executive Director of the e-Law Center of the Arellano University School of Law, Jimmy was a particularly strong advocate for open education and the need to make knowledge and learning accessible to all. He practiced his own values through his teaching, advocacy and academic work, in which he sought to make the law accessible and understandable to all members of society.

Jimmy passed away in July 2012, after a year of lingering illness. He will be greatly missed by all in the CC community.

== Overview ==

Foncept is a Hong Kong-based design sharing community site. Foncept organises fortnightly T-shirt competitions; users are able to vote for their favourite designs on the Foncept website. Designs which are well-received by the public will be selected and printed as T-shirts for sale, with the winning designers receiving a reward and revenue for every T-shirt sold. Foncept’s objective is to help local designers to share and publish their designs to the public, and to increase consumer awareness and understanding of what designers wish to express in their designs.

== Motivations ==

The team behind Foncept is mostly made up of software developers, who are familiar with free and open-source licensing in the software development context. Foncept first found out about Creative Commons when looking for a similarly free licensing system in the area of creative works.

Foncept sought to encourage designers to share their designs by providing an alternative licensing model, in the hope that it will encourage designers to remix and reuse elements in their designs to create and innovate collaboratively. In discussions of Creative Commons licensing with designers, Foncept found that designers were more willing to make their designs public if they could restrict reuse to non-commercial usage. Foncept therefore made non-commercial CC licenses available to designers on its website.

Foncept initially received a large number of enquiries about why CC licensing was available and what CC licenses meant. However, the availability of CC licensing was praised by local designers, who appreciated the availability of a local platform which respected copyright while also providing a certain level of creative freedom.

Snoblind於2005年的野台開唱(Formoz Festival)中台灣創用CC的攤位首次認識共享創意。其後台灣網上出版商Sociopath Recordings幫助Snoblind出版一張EP，並在共享創意條款授權下把音樂在網上分享。其後Snoblind更在香港共享創意的成立典禮中演出，之後就使用香港共享創意條款來發放音樂。

Snoblind選用共享創意條款是因為條款容易使用。與其要進入法律的地雷陣，簡單地採來共享創意條款已可令Snoblind的音樂有清晰的法律保障，同時保留音樂的所有權。若果把音樂放進公有領域，樂隊將會喪失對作品的所有權利。

雖然Snoblind暫時無意把作品以出商業發行，但也不想他人從其音樂中獲利而不作出署名。同時，樂隊想盡量將音樂發放及分享。為達到這些錯中複雜的目標，Snoblind選用了署名-非商業性-相同方式共享條款，就可以令作品有足夠的保障，同時又可以讓音樂更有效地被發放及分享。

觀塘市中心快將開始重建(2009-2021)，這是香港最大型的重建計劃。建立[http://www.kwuntongculture.hk/ 我們的地圖：官塘文化與歷史]這個網上平台的目的，並不只是追索有限文獻記載的社區歷史，和紀錄快要失去的只活在觀塘特有的空間設置的文化；從多位參與者在不同時間創作不同風格的媒體作品，我們希望這個資料庫 -- 儲存關於城市景觀改變的文化歷史材料，可以讓我們自己，和他人，想想複雜多面的舊區更新的問題，而不只由「重建」硬件的角度出發。

「我們的地圖﹣﹣官塘的文化與歷史」是一個關於觀塘文化的資料庫，是互動和有地理／時間資訊的網上平台，支緩不同的媒體作品 -- 聲音、硬照和活動影像；資料庫儲存參與者的不同風格／時間／地點的作品。這個平台讓來訪者可以從地理資料／時間／分類關鍵詞搜尋媒體作品，在觀聽不同參與者的作品之餘，也可由電郵或其他web 2.0平台如facebook, myspace 等與他外，來訪者也可以玩混合影音，或者建立路線圖，讓自己親身走到觀塘去看看聽聽。

這個網站在2009年頭開始，會一直做至少12年直到觀塘市中心重建計劃完成。

Snoblind於2005年的野台開唱(Formoz Festival)中台灣創用CC的攤位首次認識共享創意。其後台灣網上出版商Sociopath Recordings幫助Snoblind出版一張EP，並在共享創意條款授權下把音樂在網上分享。其後Snoblind更在香港共享創意的成立典禮中演出，之後就使用香港共享創意條款來發放音樂。

Snoblind選用共享創意條款是因為條款容易使用。與其要進入法律的地雷陣，簡單地採來共享創意條款已可令Snoblind的音樂有清晰的法律保障，同時保留音樂的所有權。若果把音樂放進公有領域，樂隊將會喪失對作品的所有權利。

雖然Snoblind暫時無意把作品以出商業發行，但也不想他人從其音樂中獲利而不作出署名。同時，樂隊想盡量將音樂發放及分享。為達到這些錯中複雜的目標，Snoblind選用了署名-非商業性-相同方式共享條款，就可以令作品有足夠的保障，同時又可以讓音樂更有效地被發放及分享。

Snoblind又指出，共享創意網站令授權過程變得容易，而共享創意條款使樂隊可頻密地發放音樂，因為他們知道有一個有認受性又容易使用的授權機系令其音樂得以保障。
