HOWTO Translate
http://translate.creativecommons.org
- Visit http://translate.creativecommons.org
- Create an account and sign-up for the languages you would like to translate
- Translate where you see there needs to be translation, updates, clarifications, etc.
The Open Source Way
The generic Open Source way of translating applications follows these steps:
- Get the generic POT file from an application that has the generic default string and a place for you to enter your language's translation.
- Translate the strings and edit the file, adding your copyright to it and making sure the markup is complete and valid.
- Submit the language translation to the project (tracker, mailing list, etc)
- NOTE: For Creative Commons projects, this should be posted as a patch to: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=80503&atid=559968
Why?
Here are some partial reasons why it is important to help translate:
- Translation helps us create localized software, infrastructure, and documents which help this project reach out around the world to be culturally inclusive.
- Translation is an excellent point of entry into Open Source culture and methodology.
- Learning how to translate in the methods aforementioned actually increases your marketability on the job market.
- Translating increases your community reputation and trust.
- It's fun!
