Richard

Richard tha IIIrd is a Jozi based DJ, producer and sound designer. Aside from composing and producing music for TV and film, Rich spends his time playing beats and tunes in bar/clubs such as 88, Tokyo Star and Loaded, making hip-hop, and remixing South Africa's beatnik for the breakbeat generation stars such as the Real Estate Agents and 340 mils.

For some time now he has been interested in creating home-grown mashups. A mashup is a combination of two or more tracks of different genres and/or moods mixed together to create something new. While many mashups are noisy and irritating, artists such as Danger Mouse, Too Many DJs and DJ Prince have received much respect for their clever incongruent mixes. So far Rich has made a few mashups, taking alternative South African tracks and mixing them with more commercial international music. An example would be his combination of Felix La Band's 'Donkey Rattle' mixed with Michael Jackson's 'Startin Something' - two completely different tunes that actually work brilliantly together. Richard will be discussing, demonstrating and playing his own brand of South African mashup.
