The project would remain active during the Open Video Conference 2010, providing an opportunity to recruit interested volunteers. Limited assistance may also be available from Elphel and the Apertus Open Source Cinema project. |
| Grants/Applying Creative Commons to rural development in China. + | Project Team: Emlyn Phillips (e-learning & knowledge management) Dalida Turkovic (pedagogical insights & coaching) Peter Strijdonk (pedagogical insights & coaching) Zhang Dan (computer systems support, translation) Liu Xuyang (traditional Chinese culture) Community – Qinbiankou: Li Rong (ex-mayor of the village). Li Rong is an activist in an extremely conservative community. He has a long personal history of environmental work, such as planting trees to retain water in the ground. He has high prestige within the community; initial change has to be introduced through his personal network of friends and family, but once positive effects are clear, other villagers will emulate him. Li Rong also has excellent relations with the local government and Communist Party apparatus, which is essential for projects of this nature in China. Li Rong is the informal head of a group of influential villagers who are well aware that the village has severe environmental and economic issues, and who are extremely open to new possibilities. With regard to the problem patterns, we expect to work with Li Rong and five or six of his personal network. Surveys pertaining to the calendar should expect to involve ten to fifteen participants in Qingbiankou, including both children and adults. We expect seven or eight teenagers or young adults to be involved in the interviewing of the older generation. Visionary and proactive he would be the great resource for the direction and influence in the whole area. Mr. Zhu Weidong – headmaster of Gangfang School. Small Steps in China has been closely working with him in all the projects from year 2001. He is the bridge with the local community although a bit reluctant to come forth with strong initiative for change. |

In these sense we will work in the oficial blog of Scratch updating it and promoting it using an email data base. Also the workshops will be analyze in the sense of quiality using a form done in PHP. All the information will be store ina a server for future proyections. - Relations with Public Organizations There is an important role played by the public sector in the provision of activities for educational propose, both in governance and private management. In this regard, we will made efforts to create a strong educational organization dedicated specifically to the area of education and technology. For that we will establish relations with public organization dedicated to the educational sector like Free Software Chile organization or Educa Chile. In addition we will establish linkages with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Economy, CORFO and mines companies that support these initiatives. Although formal relations with educational institutions should belong to these group. It is believed that the space of a collaborative knowledge (where the workshop will take place), is interesting them. In these sense there are a lot of primary and secondary educational institutions around the Matucana 100 Cultural Centre: http://www.municipalidaddesantiago.cl/educacion/establecimientos.php http://matriculascolegios.cl/mc06/sub01/quintanormal.htm http://www.matriculascolegios.cl/mc06/sub01/estacioncentral.htm In these point we have consider also, a large number of universities where are close to the Cultural Centre Matucana 100. These universities could be in a near future related directly or indirectly to the project “Approach for a Working Emerging Field Through Scratch for Secondary Students” or to other activities we are working. Some of the universisties that are close to Matucana 100 are: Universidad de Santiago, Universidad Bolivariana, Universidad Nacional Andrés Bello, Universidad Diego Portales. They have several schools such as Engineering, Design, Science, Art, Primary and Secondary Education. These relation will permit to see scope for continous exchange of experiences among the universities student, academics, the members of the media lab and why not with the students that will go to the workshops “Approach for a Working Emerging Field Through Scratch for Secondary Students”. |
| Grants/Arabic Open Educational Resources (OER) Platform + | 19 participants are organized into several teams as follows: Software development and system administration (4), project coordination and community relations (3), delegates of educational institutes (12). After the launch, the number of participants will increase consistently to include instructors and students who use the platform. The participants are involved in the project on a strong volunteering basis. Different organizations showed interest in the project and they are willing to provide human resources to participate in the project. |
| Grants/Assessing the effect of license choice on the use of lexical resources + | The academic paper will be written by the two main participants. However, we will survey all known wordnet projects, starting with the global wordnet association list (email questionnaire) and interview a selected sample. We know at least 15 of the 58 wordnet developers. For the open server, we will use existing standards as much as possible and share the code freely. We have spoken informally to some developers already and got their support. It may be possible to use the Asian WordNet project infrastructure directly, in which case all we will need to do is reformat all open WordnNets to the ASWN standard. |
| Grants/AudioImager + | The project team will have four members. Two technical mentors from the Berkman Center, the software developer and project manager. |
| Grants/Avbi personal : budget tax advisor web tool for Guatemala + | after a accomplishing a 3 month promoting plan the goal is to register 500 users (167/month) then sustain their involvement through stimulating their interest in being constant so they can see the their future results and obtain the needed advise and tax reports which are presented Monthly / Quarterly. | Grants/Best Practices for Startups: Leveraging CC to Optimize Resources + | We expect to have 15 coaches participating, multiplying the effects of the seminars within their own communities and organizations. In addition, we expect to have at least 50 entrepreneurs participating in the Best Practices workshop. We will sustain their involvement through future topics and conferences led by BIG Ideas, as well as future networking events. This will also allow the entrepreneurs to share their CC know-how with others in their network. |
| Grants/BiDi en Iberoamèrica + | At least 3 of the foundation staff will work partially on the project during this fist stage of the launch. In any case the site will become part of the Foundation´s projects afterwards and the foundation will provide the continuity |
| Grants/CC Asia Pacific Conference 2010 + | More than 30 representatives from about 10 CC jurisdictions in Asia and the Pacific are expected to participate in pre-conference and concurrent sessions and be joined by around 300 locals including public officials, artists, and IT experts. For the local community, we plan to draw attention and encourage participation through online promotion on major portals, websites, emails, forums and blogs. At the international level, we will directly engage with overseas CC communities via email to inform them of the conference and encourage their participation. In addition, several pre- conference projects and side events will be prepared to draw attention of people who support CC around the world. |
| Grants/CC Commentary + | Initially it will take a rather small group of up to ten persons to get the basic commentary structure off the ground and develop and test the back-end. But as the content grows, especially when going multi-lingual, a larger group must be formed to maintain and update the commentary. To achieve this, a merit-based custodianship for every part of the commentary needs to be established, with the respective custodian making sure that curators are found and the content is correctly marked as up-to-date, outdated or non sensitive to change. This process can supported to quite an extent by automated processes. |
| Grants/CC Full-dome + | During the first phase of the project, we expect around thirty to forty people to help create the physical dome and its technical infrastructure. The vast majority of these people have a vested interest in the project and collaborate with the Artists' House on a volunteer basis, although several specialists will be paid for their work. After the Dome is finished, it is guaranteed that the community will grow faster every month due to artist/ filmmakers/ full-dome fanatics and students who will have the possibility to create their own content for the Dome, who will naturally spread the word to other interested people -- especially via our proximity and cooperation with Bauhaus-University Weimar and the Full-Dome-festival in Jena. (See other notes.) |
| Grants/CC Latin Policy + | About 5 interviews should be conducted in each country. An incentive for participant involvement is the opportunity of learning how new projects are born and structured in other countries and therefore how to improve their capacity to extend their CC policy to other projects. |
| Grants/CC Policy Makers and Industry Leaders Arab World Forum + | We will invite up to 16 speakers to speak at the forum, half of whom will be from Jordan and the Arab world and the rest will be from overseas (mainly the US and Australia). The people invited to speak at the forum will be experts in the use of CC licensing to promote open access, who can conceptualise how CC can benefit developing countries (particularly the Arab region) in business, education and government. Invitations will be extended to overseas participants including: Professor Lawrence Lessig (US), Professor Anne Fitzgerald (Australia), Neale Hooper (leader of CC and Government project, Queensland Government, Australia), Graham Vickery (OECD), Paul Uhlir (US), Chris Corbin (EU PSI platform) and Professor Marco Ricolfi (Italy). Following the forum, the international experts who participate in the forum will be encouraged to continue the process of knowledge transfer and exchange with the Arab region through informal mentoring and support. Arrangements for ensuring an ongoing dialogue will be discussed at the forum. |
| Grants/CC Uploader for Drupal + | Many stations that want to get involved in the Open Media Project lacked the network, server, and/or staff the current Open Media modules require. The Uploader would be designed for implementation in these environments. The majority of public access stations have large digital archives, but limited bandwidth and staff. Once the Uploader has proven successful at a few stations, it could be adopted by hundreds of public access stations. In the Open Media Project, the key to sustaining an organization's involvement has been providing a solution to a problem the organization had already identified as well as refraining from overselling the solution. The CC Uploader alone will not solve all the problems locally focused organizations face to remain relevant to their communities in a Web2.0 world. Once an organization decides sharing their archive is a priority, the Uploader will just be one tool they can leverage while making other changes within their organization. |
| Grants/CDLD Editions + | We are two people coordinating the project. A large part of the grant is to sustain our work throughout this first part of the project. As far as other collaborators, we have many friends and contacts that will be happy and eager to publish their material with us and help out with the cause. |
| Grants/CDLD.ORG / Virtual Documentation Center of the Arts + | Currently we are two people. A big part of the grant will be used to sustain our work throughout the first part of the project, so we can concentrate on uploading our archive and scanning thousands of files. The website is currently online, but it isn´t finished yet. We´ve been programming for over a year now, adding more features and getting the kinks out of the system. This grant would give us the final boost we need to finally finish and launch it. |
| Grants/Cacao, Commons’ Central American Observatory + | Libros Mínimos has a talented writers team that have a wide group of readers. Some of the writers will participate writing the chronicles and others as bloggers. The research of projects under CC licenses will able to contact with other writers in Guatemala and Costa Rica who will be able to join project Cacao to continue this reflection of contents under CC licenses. |
| Grants/Catalyst Languages + | Directly 5 members of staff will be involved in-house, one of whom will be project co-ordinator. Their involvement will be sustained by virtue of the fact that this is largely the sort of work they do all year anyway, it merely needs to have someone streamline and co-ordinate it to make sure everyone is working together. Copyright issues have become a terrible burden as textbook publishers not only are becoming more litigious, but also are building in links with online resources which are kept behind an expensive paywall - we have bought materials in the past only to find they are near useless when the license runs out. Everyone wants to find a way around this, especially as school budgets are getting increasingly tight. |
| Grants/Central and Eastern European Free Culture Policy Workshop + | We expect to fund the participation of 16 selected experts from abroad (assuming 1-3 persons per country) and 4 persons from Poland, with a mixed set of competences and backgrounds corresponding to both the two key areas and other areas of interest (for example, science, education, innovation, etc.). These persons will be invited through CC affiliates in the region (jurisdiction affiliates or people and institutions considering such status). Through them we will invite both persons involved in Creative Commons, other free culture activists, and potentially also other key experts dealing with these issues from different perspectives. In order to insure involvement, we are moving beyond a simple "talk" model and want to focus the workshop on a specific policy document. Part of the collective work on document drafting will have to be done after the Forum - this effort will be led by our Polish staff; we hope that its activity will encourage peer contributions from other participants. |
