What should I put in the Affiliation field?

The "Affiliation" field contains the organizations associated with a particular site. For example, http://ocw.mit.edu is the site for MIT Open CourseWare. The organization affiliated with this site is obvious: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Hence, you would put this into the Affiliation field.

What if there is more than one organization affiliated with the site? Should I put them in a particular order?

Yes. Please try to put the organizations in order (comma separated) from smallest to largest--so that the last organization listed is the overarching organization.

For example, http://data.giss.nasa.gov is the Data & Images site for the Goddard Institute for Space Studies. However, the Goddard Institute for Space Studies is a part of NASA. Therefore, you would put the following in the Affiliation field: "Goddard Institute for Space Studies, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)"

The same goes for departments within a certain organization (if relevant). For example, http://ocw.nctu.edu.tw/main.php is the site for National Chiao Tung University OpenCourseWare. The OpenCourseWare site is housed within the College of Science. Therefore, you would put the following in the Affiliation field: "College of Science, National Chiao Tung University"

What if there is no overarching organization? Say, it is an equally collaborative effort on the part of two or more organizations.

Then, the order doesn't really matter. Just enter them comma separated, like so: "Ohio State University, University of Northern Colorado"

A Note on Formatting

As demonstrated above, please try to include the organization's full name and abbreviation (if popular) in the following format: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This will ensure greater searchability of the organization.
