Policy is very lenient w/r/t traditional scholarly works. Allows author to retain all copyright ownership even if work is considered a "work for hire" and even if author uses substantial university resources. However, policy becomes convoluted w/r/t courseware. Policy distinguishes between different types of courseware. Distinctions could be difficult to understand.
UNIVERSITY OWNERSHIP INTEREST. Kansas State University asserts a limited ownership interest in some of the various rights as set forth below. Since the University has a fiduciary responsibility for the appropriate use of state funds, unless otherwise provided for under this policy, Kansas State University owns rights associated with works produced as "works made for hire" or other works that make "substantial use of institutional resources."
